The Red and White Fluttered, Sparks the Nationalism within the Children’s Heart
In commemorating the annual National Independence Day, Picket Fence and Fontem Academy students at all centres celebrated the huge national event by having tons of activities related to nationalism and patriotism.
The event was started with an orderly conducted flag raising ceremony where the students lined up and gave respect to the national flag, the reciting of National Proclamation Text by the school leader. The event then continued with the singing of the National Anthem and of course the particular song of the Independence Day, “Hari Merdeka”.
After the ceremony finished, it was time for the students to learn the essence of patriotism and hard works of the fallen heroes towards certain achievements, the national independence. Students are grouped and did independence day-related activities, namely national flag decorating, tug of war, eating cookies competitions, ball relay race, pass the rubber band competition, coloring and drawing competition with the National Independence Day as the main theme. There were varieties of competitions held in different centers but only for one aim, to spark the nationalism of the young learners. Merdeka!
